My name is Ana Leiras Bermudez, I am originally from As Pontes, in the province of A Coruña, in Galicia, but I have been living in London for the last 6 years. During my time in UK, I have worked in secondary school settings, starting as a SEN teaching assistant, continuing as an EAL (English as an Additional Language) / ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher, and from January 2018 to November 2018 acting as a subject leader and teacher of Spanish and EAL, as well as a Head of Year 8 at Eaton Square Mayfair, an independent and co-educational secondary school in Mayfair, central London.
Since January, I have also been working as an employability coordinator in a non-profit organisation, providing traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities to people from 16-24 years old; a service provided in line with the governmental strategy to reduce the proportion of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) in East London.
Due to family matters, I have now returned to my home country and settled down in A Coruña, and I would like to continue developing my expertise in a school, which allows me to continue supporting younger generations with their language acquisition within an international working environment.
My passion for language teaching and the responsibilities taken since having started at Eaton Square Mayfair, an independent school in central London, leading on the development of the subjects within the school, have kept me fully focused and committed to the school ethos and values, always going far and beyond my duties to further contribute to the success of the pupils and the school. Having done this while I was undertaking my qualification, a Diploma in Education and Training, with a speciality in teaching EAL/ESOL at Canterbury Christ Church University, has allowed me to do it while constantly reflecting on the impact of my decisions, in and outside the classroom, facing the constant challenges of a self-demanding and committed working ethos.
